Must watch | Women Dying In Pregnancy | A Campaign By Yangzom Sherpa

Let’s Build a Health Post

I was eight years old when my mother passed away due to heavy bleeding in the birth of my younger brother. My mother could survived If medical treatment provided. The painful moment still strikes me even after 22 years, which leads me to build a full service heath post in my birth place. The saddest thing is that women are still facing same problem in pregnancy like my mother. Each year around two women are demise due to difficulties in giving a birth as there is lack of medical care while pregnancy period. We could save many lives by giving medical care.

Due to lack of road transportation facilities villagers have to go by foot for two days to reach the local health post rather than district health post. Villager should chatter helicopter to reach hospital in Kathmandu, If their relatives and family member faces serious health problem. Chatter helicopter once cost around 500 thousand rupees ( 5000 US dollar).
You even can’t imagine that how hard to poor and uneducated villager to manage such a huge amount of money. Many women lost their live as their family fails to chatter a helicopter. As we know the government failed to give reliable health service in remote area across the country.

Above all, I along with some enthusiastic person of my village have been fighting for establishing a health post in my village since last seven year. Finally the government of Nepal has provided a temporary community health post in my village in 2015. We setup a temporary health post in a school room with a Health Assistant(H.A) and an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (A.N.M.) since its establish. We are not able to run the health post smoothly due to the lack of infrastructure. We approached many times in District health office to the ministry of health in terms of a building for health post but no any positive outcome.

I am still positive and hopeful to provide access to health service to villagers in my birth place. Therefore I decided to run this campaign ( Lets Build A Health Post ) to seek helping hands across the globe. So I would like to humbly request all of you to make a change.

Story of my village

Ghunsa, is a remote village on the lap of Mt. Kanchanjunga (Taplejung District). It takes 4 days to reach Ghunsa by foot from district head quarter (Fungling Bazzar). According to the census (2011) the population of Ghunsa is 2225 and 1122 of them are women.

What are we planning for ?

We are planning to build a well equipped health post in Ghunsa. Two villagers Wangdak Sherpa and Neema Chheten Sherpa are ready to provide one Ropani land for it. A story health post building contains 4 room having O.P.D room, pharmacy room and sterilization room. It also includes one guest room and toilet bathroom in the health post compound. All the constructions will be earthquake resistance.

Address- Ghunsa 09, Taplejung
Area of health post – 1 Ropani
Estimated cost- NPR 300,0000 ( US dollar 28,037)

Even a penny counts!

We know we all have some kind of strength. Some can afford time to take initiative to lead on the ground; some may not be able to do that but can contribute little of what we have. Here we are, on the ground to build a health post. If you cannot come on the ground, you may consider contributing the amount whatever you can. Let us work on your behalf. Even a single penny counts as we’re running out of money already.

Transparency of the money you contribute

Community Health Post building committee is the legally registered entity under the Social Welfare Council of Government of Nepal. Each of your contribution will be audited by the registered auditor and details of the expenses will be made public through public hearing program and social media platforms. Names of the contributors will be added on the inscription to be placed at the health post.
